Periodontal disease is an infection that affects the gums. It is a long-progressive, infectious and chronic gingival problem that causes the loss of bone support of the teeth. This disease is also known as pyorrhea or gum disease.
The problem is caused by dental plaque that turns into tartar if not removed properly with daily brushing and flossing. Once this point is reached, brushing is no longer effective and only a professional dental cleaning can remove tartar. STAGES OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE

Gingivitis is treatable if treated by a professional, and the patient follows the dentist's instructions for home dental care.
Mild periodontitis
If gingivitis is not treated, this gum disease can lead to periodontitis. At this point, the disease begins to destroy the bone and gum tissue that supports the tooth.
acute periodontitis
Acute periodontitis occurs if the early stages of this disease are not treated. This is the most advanced form of the disease, which causes significant bone and tissue loss.
